Job summary

Teaching Personnel is assisting a Secondary Mainstream school on Pennywell Road, Sunderland, to recruit a confident Cover Supervisor to support learning when teachers are absent and keep the school day running smoothly.

This hands-on role is ideal for those exploring a future in teaching or gaining classroom experience without full lesson planning. You will work with pre-prepared materials, maintain a calm, structured environment, and help students stay on task across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Qualifications

• Right to work in the UK (e.g. British passport or BRP with a valid share code).
• An Overseas Police Check if you have lived abroad.
• Experience working with young people through schools, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, or similar roles.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• A calm, professional, and adaptable approach to working in a busy secondary school environment.
• Training or qualifications in education, childcare, youth work, or a related field.
• Previous experience working within a secondary school setting.

Responsibilities

• Supervising lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Delivering pre-set lesson materials and ensuring learning objectives are achieved.
• Following the school's behaviour management policy to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.

Supply Bank is working closely with a Secondary Mainstream school on Pennywell Road, Sunderland, seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor to support the school when teachers are absent and help ensure the school day runs smoothly.

This hands-on classroom role is ideal for individuals considering a future in teaching, returning to education, or looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school setting without the full responsibilities of lesson planning and marking.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will lead classrooms using pre-prepared lesson materials, meaning no lesson planning is required. Your focus will be on maintaining a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment where students remain on task and learning continues effectively.

• Supervising lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
