Job description

We are seeking enthusiastic, driven Emergency Care Technicians with excellent clinical and communication skills to join the Same Day Emergency Care Unit. The SDEC department is an acute area currently based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, which aims to provide specialised acute service to treat those with varying medical conditions, enabling a significant number of our patients who require emergency care to be managed safely the same day and without the need to admit into hospital.

We are redesigning our services to ensure they are streamlined and consistent with safe, effective patient-centered care. Medicine Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) forms an integral part of the redesign. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the nursing team, ensuring that patients have timely investigations by carrying out specific skills including, but not limited to: cannulation, phlebotomy, collection of blood cultures, and electrocardiogram (ECG).

Supporting all fundamentals of care required, ensuring all patients have a positive experience of the MSDEC process. The successful candidate will have proven interpersonal skills and acute medicine experience. You will be able to demonstrate clinical expertise and knowledge to support the team to deliver a high-quality, effective, and safe patient journey.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care are at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), provides care to our local population from first-class, purpose-built premises. The development of the new hospital plays an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:

  1. Our People: to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff.
  2. Our Patients: to be good or outstanding in everything we do.
  3. Our Population: to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives.

As a major employer in the Black Country and West Birmingham region, we are committed to supporting all employees to achieve a healthy work-life balance. We want the Black Country and West Birmingham region to be the best place to work and as such will consider all requests to work flexibly, taking into account personal and individual circumstances alongside the needs of the service. We encourage all prospective applicants to discuss their individual circumstances with the Recruiting Manager as part of the on-boarding process.

As "People" is one of our three strategic objectives, we make a continued commitment to prioritise support for all our colleagues.
