Job summary

PDSL is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry. This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to build hands-on experience in embedded software development, firmware, microcontrollers and hardware/software integration.

You will support the development, testing, debugging and validation of embedded systems using C/C++, working across bare-metal and RTOS-based applications.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of Embedded C and C++
• Experience with microcontroller platforms such as STM32, NXP, Microchip, AVR or ESP32
• Understanding of RTOS and bare-metal development
• Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART and CAN
• Ability to read electronic schematics and datasheets
• Familiarity with embedded debugging and laboratory test equipment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded software using C and C++

• Support firmware development for microcontroller‑based systems.
• Develop and debug bare‑metal and RTOS applications.
• Implement and troubleshoot I2C, SPI, UART and CAN communication.
• Support hardware/software integration, testing and fault investigation.
• Read electronic schematics, specifications and component datasheets.
• Use debugging tools such as GDB, JTAG and SWD.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with:

• Good knowledge of Embedded C and C++.

• Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART and CAN.
• Ability to read electronic schematics and datasheets.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.

This role is particularly suitable for candidates with 0–3 years of experience.

Location & Right to Work

The successful candidate will be based at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry, UK and must be able to work from this location as required.
