Job summary

Zenovo is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join our client in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. You will design and implement high-assurance software for real-time embedded systems, with emphasis on reliability and performance.

The role requires strong C/C++ skills, experience with microcontrollers and RTOS, and a solid understanding of hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART). On-site work four days per week with a focus on safety-critical development.

JobTitle: Embedded Software Engineer

Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire (On-Site Working 4-Days Per Week)

Salary: £37,500 - £50,000 (Depending on Experience)

Note:Only candidates with permanent, unrestricted UK working rights will be considered, as visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.

Overview:

Zenovo are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our client in St Ives, Cambridgeshire whodesigns and manufactures electronic test and measurement equipment, which are sold and recognised globally.

This client is looking to grow their R&D Team which currently sits at 20 heads, to support increasing workloads due to new projects.

An ideal candidate will have at least 1-Year of Experience outside of University however we are happy to consider candidates who have done a Sandwich Degree and completed a year in Industry during their studies.

Key Experience Required:
  • Proficient in C/C++ and real-time operating systems.
  • Deep understanding of microcontrollers and low-level communication interfaces such as SPI, I²C, and UART, with proven hardware–software integration skills.
  • Knowledge of system-level design, performance optimisation, fault tolerance, and developing reliable real-time systems (e.g., FreeRTOS).
  • Background in safety-critical environments and compliance standards, with strong analytical problem-solving abilities and familiarity with modern tools such as Git, CI/CD, and static analysis.
