Job summary

Our client, a global energy-technology leader, seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Bristol. You will lead design and code reviews, develop XML configurations for electronic modules, and create Python-based tools to automate engineering tasks.

The role requires embedded C/C++ expertise, Python and Java SE familiarity, and strong understanding of real-time systems and distributed protocols. You will work in a highly technical environment with cross‑platform development and adherence to

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical/electronic engineering, or related discipline.
• Significant embedded software experience in C/C++, with Python and Java SE familiarity.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, real-time systems, and distributed protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in design and code reviews for robust, maintainable software.
• Produce and validate XML-based configurations for Electronic Modules and guide junior engineers.

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Leading and actively participating in design and code reviews, ensuring robustness, compliance, and maintainability of software components.
• Producing and validating XML‑based configurations for Electronic Modules, providing advanced troubleshooting and guidance to junior engineers.
• Developing and enhancing Python-based tools used to streamline engineering workflows, automate tasks, or integrate new capabilities.
• Applying strong knowledge of object-oriented design, Java SE, and cross‑platform C/C++ development for Windows and real‑time Linux, using tools such as LINT or LDRA to maintain code quality.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have a bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
• Have significant experience with embedded software development in C/C++, along with familiarity with Python and Java SE.
• Have a strong understanding of object‑oriented design, real‑time systems, and distributed communication protocols
