Job description

Could you be our Embedded Software Design Engineer in Mansfield? We’re looking for you at Alstom.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge in Mansfield and apply your Software Design Engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Head of Engineering and work alongside a dedicated and passionate Services team in Alstom UK&I.

Day-to-day, you’ll deliver cost-efficient embedded software designs in line with budget levels. We’ll look to you to do the following:

  1. Provide embedded software designs for a range of electronics systems, project-specific and scheduled to meet customer deadlines.
  2. Deliver high standards of embedded software design in terms of performance, reliability, quality, cost, innovation, and service level.
  3. Ensure all software designs comply with the latest industry-specific and EU regulations.
  4. Take responsibility for embedded software design for various systems, aligned with project requirements and quality standards.
  5. Adopt and continuously improve innovative and best practice embedded software standards.
  6. Ensure full compliance with design, quality, and Health & Safety regulations.
  7. Report quality, HSE, or HR issues to the Engineering Manager promptly.
All about you

  1. Substantial embedded software design experience in a relevant electronics business. Knowledge of rail industry standards is advantageous.
  2. Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering or a related field.
  3. A driven, disciplined, logical thinker, self-motivated team player, with excellent communication skills and a highly innovative approach to delivering high-quality embedded software design.
  4. Strong technical ability, innovation, organizational skills, problem-solving, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  5. High customer focus.
  6. 100% compliance with current design, quality, and HSE regulations.
  7. Ability to deliver on timescales, within budget, and to quality standards.

Understanding of embedded software design including:

  1. C/C++, C#, Visual Studio, CE 5.0 & 6.0, .NET, MFC, Visual Basic, ARM9, 8051, PIC, X86, SQL, Assembler, RTOS. Web application design (TypeScript/JavaScript/HTML/CSS) is desirable.
  2. Fault analysis, unit and integration testing, factory acceptance testing, site testing, and commissioning.
  3. Test procedures, change control, and version control.
