Design Engineer

This challenging and exciting Design Engineer opportunity requires an ambitious engineer with exposure to design within the piling, foundations, or ground and geotechnical engineering sectors. This position offers remote work, so any UK location will be considered, but a full UK driving licence is required as occasional site visits are necessary.

The successful candidate will ideally (but not necessarily) possess a relevant qualification combined with design experience in any of the specified sectors.

The Person

• Demonstrable experience in designing piling, foundations, or ground and geotechnical engineering projects.
• Ability to contribute to an established business with enthusiasm and drive across various design areas.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of relating to people at all levels and maintaining professional relationships.
• Understanding of the requirements to be an effective member of a fast-paced design team, with the ability to manage and deliver design processes efficiently.
• Focus on maximising business value through innovative design proposals and maintaining high service levels to clients.
• Hands-on, team-oriented approach, capable of promoting alternative solutions and value engineering.
• Proven client communication experience.

The Role

• Contribute actively to delivering high-quality design solutions aligned with project specifications and client requirements.
• Review and challenge design elements proactively to reduce risks and enhance opportunities.
• Produce high-quality design material, identify constraints, and suggest improvements to meet delivery timelines.
• Promote core company values, collaborate across teams, and add value in all aspects of work.
• Assist in controlling design costs and timelines during tender processes.
• Prepare reports on design performance for decision-making.
• Participate in review meetings, focusing on client expectations and project delivery.
• Coordinate design and value engineering efforts during tenders and schemes.
• Attend progress meetings and present updates to management.
• Ensure designs comply with policies, legal requirements, and best practices.
• Manage personal targets, risks, and deliverables effectively.
• Handle issues arising from design changes according to company procedures.
• Liaise with relevant internal teams as needed.
