Job summary

Red Bull Powertrains offers a year-long placement in our Electronics & ERS Engineering Design teams. You’ll be immersed in our state-of-the-art Technical and Testing facilities, driving engineering innovation to develop cutting-edge Formula 1 power units.

Successful candidates will explore electronic power conversion, high-speed control electronics, sensor conditioning, and battery management systems. Expect hands-on design, testing, and data analysis, with exposure to LabVIEW and Lab testing

Qualifications

  • One year of undergraduate study in electrical/ electronic engineering, mathematics or physics.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and applying mathematical methods to real problems.
  • Familiarity with CAD/FEA/CFD or system modelling (training provided).
  • Knowledge of electronic design and simulation tools (LTSpice or similar).
  • Experience with PCB design, testing, debugging and validation.
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting of electronic systems and test rigs.
  • Ability to analyze data from simulations or tests and produce technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all stages of the engineering process from concept to live testing.
  • Apply design principles to develop real Power Unit components.
  • Support design, testing, and development of electronic ERS components.
  • Assist with power electronics design including high‑power inverters and DC/DC converters.
  • Build, test, and debug electronic components and systems.
  • Develop and improve test rigs and software (LabVIEW, TestStand).
  • Create and update test procedures for electronics.
  • Analyse test data and investigate faults to improve reliability and performance.
  • Prepare risk assessments and follow safety procedures.
  • Report data through technical documentation and present insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Technical and Testing teams to deliver solutions.
  • Gain exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season and contribute to RB Powertrains.

Job description

Red Bull Powertrains are offering multiple year-long placement opportunities within our Electronics & ERS Engineering Design teams. In these hands‑on roles you will be emersed into the heart of our state‑of‑the‑art Technical and Testing facilities where we drive engineering and innovation to the limit to develop cutting‑edge Formula 1 power units. Pushing boundaries is in our DNA!

This placement opportunity will allow you to dive deep into the development process ERS Electronic components. Successful candidates will have a keen interest in one or more of the following areas: Electronic power conversion (DC/DC & DC/AC), high speed control electronics (Microcontroller & FPGA), sensor signal conditioning & measurement electronics (Amplifier, Filter & ADC), communication interfaces (e.g. Ethernet, CAN, FlexRay, SPI) and battery management systems.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Contribute to all stages of the engineering process from conceptual design, through manufacturing reviews, to live testing on our in‑house state‑of‑the‑art facilities
  • Applying engineering design principles using tools and techniques to develop real Power Unit components
  • Support the design, testing, and development of electronic components for the Energy Recovery System (ERS)
  • Assist with power electronics design, including high‑power inverters, DC/DC converters and control circuits
  • Help build, test, and debug electronic components and systems
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of test rigs and software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand)
  • Create and update test procedures for electronic components
  • Analyse test data and assist with fault investigation to improve system reliability and performance
  • Prepare risk assessments and follow safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Interpreting and reporting data through technical documentation and presenting insights to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Collaborating closely with all the Technical and Testing teams to deliver world‑class engineering solutions
  • Gaining direct exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season and contributing to the future of Red Bull Powertrains

Expected knowledge, experience & attributes of the successful candidates:
  • Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study on either an electrical/ electronic engineering, mathematics or physics degree course
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply mathematical methods to solve real-world problems
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as CAD, FEA, CFD, or system modelling (training will be provided)
  • Knowledge of electronic design and simulation tools (LTSpice or similar)
  • Design and layout of PCBs, including electronic circuit testing, debugging, and validation
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting of electronic systems and test rigs
  • Experience with handling and analysing data from simulations or physical tests and confidence in preparing high-quality technical documentation
  • Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamental principles and understand the contributing physics
  • Ability to demonstrate a genuine passion for engineering through involvement in extra‑curricular projects, previous placements, or work experience
  • Positive, can‑do, attitude and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment
The placement will be for 1 year, starting July 2027.
