A leading company in electricity distribution is seeking a Technician (Fitting) for their Plant Centre in Cwmbran. The role involves programming and commissioning various electrical equipment, managing stock, and training staff. Candidates must have relevant GCSEs and City & Guilds qualifications, with a strong emphasis on communication and decision-making skills.
An opportunity is available for a Technician (Fitting) in the Plant Centre based at Ty Coch depot.
For this role, you are required to have GCSEs graded A*-C/4-9 in English and Maths or a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in both subjects. Additionally, you must hold a City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering.
Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Reporting to the Plant Centre Team Manager, the role will involve:
You should be able to work independently and as part of a small team, making decisions on the spot when necessary. Good communication skills are essential to assist with queries from external suppliers and various departments within NGED, such as Network Design, Policy, Telecoms, and Operations.
A flexible attitude and the ability to handle pressure are crucial, as the role often involves working under tight deadlines.
Ideally, the candidate will have an understanding of secondary switchgear protection relays such as Sepam S40, VIP 400, and Fanox, including future developments. Knowledge of maintenance and workshop commissioning of Voltage Regulators and CL7 controllers is also desirable. Basic switching skills for Overhead lines are required; training will be provided if necessary.
The successful candidate must hold a Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 qualification and will be expected to undertake Level 3 if not already attained.
