Job description

Electricity Distribution - Network Technician

Opportunities are available for two Network Technicians based at our Lincoln depot.

You will be accountable to the Team Manager for the construction, maintenance, and repair of the underground and overhead network up to 66kV. Additionally, you will be responsible for programming and monitoring immediate work colleagues, switching up to 66kV, issuing appropriate safety documentation, and performing other tasks relevant to the Technician role.

You are required to hold:

  • GCSE in English and Maths Grade A-C/9-4 or Functional/Key Skills Level 2 qualification in both subjects
  • City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

*Please note that the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are completed.

Main Responsibilities
  • Network operations, including issuing Limitations of Access and Permit to Work safety documents up to 66kV
  • Construction of distribution substations, overhead lines, and associated plant, including installation of plant and laying/jointing of cables up to 11kV
  • Repair and replacement of faulty and obsolete plant, cables, and overhead lines
  • Recording asset routes, details, and positions
Ideal Candidate

You must be able to work independently as part of a small team and make on-the-spot decisions when required. Good communication skills, a flexible attitude, and the ability to cope under pressure and meet tight deadlines are essential. Additionally, you will need to train as an SAP and be mobile throughout the area to undertake standby duties as part of the team rota.

If not already attained, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 qualification.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues, and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check. Depending on the role, different levels of screening and vetting are required, with some roles requiring triannual checks.

For operational reasons, the successful candidate must live within 30 miles of LN2 4JB.
