Job summary

Matchtech in Glasgow is recruiting an Electrician to support the Type 26 Frigate programme. You will install and commission electrical systems aboard naval platforms, reading diagrams and following safety practices in a large-scale marine engineering environment.

The role offers a competitive salary (£40,016) with 33% shift allowance where applicable, long-term national programme work, and opportunities to develop specialised marine and shipbuilding experience alongside highly skilled trades.

Qualifications

  • Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent electrical trade qualification.
  • Valid SJIB Card.
  • Experience working within marine, shipbuilding or major industrial environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical instructions.
  • Understanding of risk assessments, PUWER, COSHH and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of isolation, tag-out and proving-dead procedures.
  • Experience mounting electrical equipment, earthing components and carrying out cable terminations to trade standards.

  • Installing a variety of cable types including multi-core, single-core and coaxial cables
  • Installing electrical systems and equipment including junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches
  • Completing cable terminations and electrical equipment installations
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary shipbuilding teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to schedule
  • Maintaining high standards of quality, safety and workmanship at all times

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

Shift Patterns

Days: Monday to Thursday, 07:00-16:30
Nights: Monday to Thursday, 20:30-06:00
Weekends: Friday to Sunday, 07:00-19:30

The Electrical Team builds the power and control systems that bring Type 26 frigates to life. As part of a large, multi-skilled workforce, you'll install, route and connect the equipment that keeps these advanced vessels operational. It's a hands-on role within a highly skilled team, delivering world-class engineering solutions and supporting one of the UK's most exciting shipbuilding programmes.
