Job summary

Barnet and Southgate College is seeking an Electrical Installation Workshop Technician to manage the Southgate Campus workshops, ensuring safety, readiness for practical sessions and strong support for lecturers and learners.

You will maintain tools and equipment, deliver demonstrations on wiring techniques and safety procedures, and uphold COSHH and safety standards while contributing to the development of the construction centre.

Qualifications

• A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• English and Maths at Level 2 or above.
• Practical experience within the electrical installation trade or a workshop environment.
• Experience maintaining electrical tools, equipment or training rigs.
• Sound knowledge of electrical installation systems, tools and materials.
• Strong awareness of electrical health and safety, including safe isolation procedures.
• Effective communication skills with staff and learners.
• Basic IT skills including email, inventory systems and digital record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up and maintain the Electrical Installation workshops for practical teaching sessions, ensuring tools and equipment are ready and safe.
• Provide hands-on technical support to lecturers and deliver demonstrations of wiring techniques, safe isolation and testing methods.
• Maintain and service tools, testing equipment and training rigs, arranging servicing where required.
• Maintain high health and safety standards in the workshops and support risk assessments and COSHH documentation.
• Manage stock control, ordering and storage of materials within budget; keep workshops clean and organised to industry standards.
• Support learners during practical activities and assist with inductions and safety expectations.
• Assist with audits, awarding body visits and external verification, maintaining records.
