Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join Thames Water as an Electrical Technician based at our wastewater treatment site on the outskirts of Oxford.

You will be working in a newly created frontline support team of technicians responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and improvements of wastewater treatment processes for the project upgrade within the Thames Valley North Area of Waste & Bioresources Operations.

If this sounds like you, we are looking for someone to join our Operations Team in Wastewater, offering a great opportunity to establish a career with Thames Water in frontline operations.

As the Electrical Technician, your role will be to ensure all equipment at our wastewater production sites operates safely and efficiently, using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair electrical equipment. You will also investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly to avoid process interruptions. Providing technical advice and training or support for trainees may also be part of your responsibilities.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  1. Investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  2. Working on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, flow, level, and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.

Base Location: Oxford STW - OX4 4YU

Working Pattern: 38 Hours, Monday-Friday, on a shift pattern 5 over 7 days

All PPE and tools are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • NVQ or C&G Level 3 in Electrical Engineering is essential.
  • 18th Edition qualification is desirable, but training can be provided.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety policies are required.
  • Significant experience in electrical systems, ideally in an industrial or water industry environment.
  • A valid driving license is required as travel within the Northeast Water Production Area will be necessary.
