Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited in Newbury is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join the Pumping Stations Technical Support team on a hybrid basis. The role covers multiple sites across Reading, Oxford, Swindon and Aylesbury, with tasks including maintenance, fault finding and data capture to support remote monitoring.

The successful candidate will be a time-served apprentice with electrical experience, 3-phase system knowledge, and a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprentice with experience in mechanical/electrical systems or NVQ/C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred; training can be given.
  • Experience working on 3-phase electrical systems and electrical control panels.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure health, safety and well-being of all on site in line with regulations.
  • Perform reactive and planned maintenance, alarms, fault finding, and installation of new plant.
  • Record work and asset information to improve performance and identify risks.
  • Provide technical advice and coach/ develop staff including apprentices.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience and communicate professionally with customers.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Pumping Stations Technical Support team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing Pumping Team in the Thames Valley region. This role will primarily be situated within the Reading, Oxford, Swindon and Aylesbury areas, but you may be required to cover other areas within the Thames Valley catchment. Your daily tasks will be essential for ensuring that our Sewage Pumping Stations are operating as desired, and that information is fed back to the internal system so that sites can be monitored remotely.

Accordingly, you will be stepping into a role of great responsibility, and you will be expected to embrace this. Your working environment will be fast-paced and varied, with plenty of opportunities for training and development in areas that you find interesting.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors by always displaying the correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fix these or escape, planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base Location: This is a mobile role. You will be required to travel across multiple sites in the Thames Valley area. You will be contractually based at Newbury STW, Lower Way, Thatcham, RG19 3TS.

Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am -3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18 th Edition preferred, but training can be given.
  • Experience working on 3-phase electrical systems and electrical control panels.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escape if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
