Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join the Waste Water team covering the Thames Valley North area, based primarily out of Little Marlow. The role involves inspecting, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment on mechanical plant with minimal supervision, ensuring sites stay operational for customers.

You will perform reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms, log asset information and provide technical guidance, coaching apprentices, and uphold health

Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical systems and maintenance in industrial environments.
  • Apprenticeship route with hands-on fault diagnosis and repair experience.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations preferred or available for training.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Waste Water team in the Thames Valley North area.

As a successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors by always displaying the correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fix these or escalate, planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base Location: Contractually, your base location will be Little Marlow STW - SL7 3SB, but you will be required to work across the Thames Valley North area, including Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Oxford and Marlow.

Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am -3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred, but training can be given.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or elevate if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
