Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking an Electrical and Mechanical Technician for the Mill Green (Hatfield) site. The role focuses on frontline maintenance of sewage pumping stations, performing electrical and mechanical work within multi-disciplinary teams across Hertfordshire.

You will repair faults, install and commission equipment, and provide technical guidance. The position requires time-served experience or NVQ/C&G Level 3, strong problem-solving, and a proactive, safety-conscious

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• Good problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement solutions.
• Excellent communication to provide technical support to staff and contractors.
• Resilience to adapt to changing environments and pressures of work.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and take initiative.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety practices relevant to the industry.

• IT literate and comfortable with basic digital tools.
• Hold a Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Investigate plant faults and perform repairs quickly to avoid process interruptions.
• Install, modify, and commission new plant equipment and diagnose faults.
• Provide technical advice and training support for trainees as required.
• Work on motors, gearboxes, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, sensors, and related systems.
• Ensure all work complies with Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

We have an exciting opportunity for a career-minded person to join our Mill Green (Hatfield) team as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician.

Focused mainly on electrical maintenance, you will be required to perform a range of assigned front-line maintenance/operational activities on our sewage pumping stations in the Hertfordshire area.

Working in multi-disciplinary teams that are responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites and networks.

What you’ll be doing as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician

• Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults, as well as performing repairs during incidents.
• Install, modify, and commission new plant equipment and diagnose and repair faults in systems and plants.
• Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
• Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
• Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base Location:

Mill Green (Hatfield), AL9 5PE

Working hours:

38 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Additionally, you will be included in a 1-week in every 6-week out-of-hours emergency standby rota, for which you receive additional payments.

You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
