Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join the Maintenance team at Mogden STW, Isleworth. This permanent, full-time role offers a 38-hour week, standby and overtime potential, with a salary up to £42,000 depending on skills and experience, plus an extensive benefits package.

  • Excellent communicator with internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Resilient and adaptable to a changing environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure health, safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors at all times.
  • Work on drives, pumps, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, VSDs, PLCs and associated systems.
  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms, fault-finding and installations as required.
  • Record work and asset information, raise risks and recommend improvements.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and coaching to staff, including apprentices.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience with professional interactions.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Maintenance team in our Wastewater Division to be based at our Mogden STW.

As a successful candidate, you will use your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician.

  • Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always my top priority by always displaying the correct behaviours by complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be drives, various pumps, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls.
  • Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault-finding to identify issues, fix these or escalating; planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge along with coaching, training and developing staff under their supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

38 hours per week, Monday-Friday. 7:30 am -3:36 pm, plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18 th Edition preferred but training can be given.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalating if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
