Job summary

Randstad Construction & Property is seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer in Peterborough to drive the development of electrified machine demonstrators. The role covers the full development lifecycle from concept to validation in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

You will work with controls, software and mechanical teams to deliver robust electrical solutions, gaining exposure to battery and power electronics technology while directly handling prototype hardware.

Qualifications

• Experience in developing and integrating electrical systems within automotive, off-highway, industrial, aerospace, or rail sectors.
• Hands-on experience with LV and HV electrical systems (60V to 1500V+).
• Expertise using CAN-based tools and diagnostic equipment for fault finding.
• Understand engineering standards, validation processes, and compliance for electrified systems.
• Analytical, systematic approach to problem solving and system interactions.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Are you a hands-on engineer driven by the challenge of developing cutting-edge electrified machine technology? We are currently seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Engineer to join a fast-paced, innovative development team in Peterborough. This is a critical, high-impact role where you will play a pivotal part in the development of electrified machine demonstrators and prototypes. As we accelerate our electrification initiatives, we are looking for a dedicated professional ready to take ownership of complex technical challenges immediately.

About the Role

This is a 12-month contract position that covers the full development lifecycle. You will transition from early concept and requirements definition through to system integration, machine build, and final validation. Operating in a specialised development environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams; including controls, software, and mechanical integration; to deliver safe, robust, and industry-leading electrical solutions. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to gain exposure to advanced battery and power electronics technology while working directly with prototype hardware.

Responsibilities

• Define comprehensive electrical system requirements and technical specifications.
• Lead electrical architecture development and ensure seamless, high-quality system integration.
• Select electrical components and perform rigorous technical evaluations of various subsystems.
• Create detailed validation plans, test procedures, and clear acceptance criteria.
• Conduct hands-on machine electrical system validation, overseeing both HV and LV architectures.
• Execute proactive troubleshooting, commissioning, and debugging activities.
• Resolve integration issues effectively during the machine build phase.
• Document technical decisions, test outcomes, and engineering recommendations with precision.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in developing and integrating electrical systems within automotive, off-highway, industrial, aerospace, or rail sectors.
• Substantial hands-on experience working safely with LV and HV electrical systems (ranging from 60V to 1500V+ applications).
• Expertise in commissioning, fault finding, and root-cause investigation using CAN-based tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards, compliance requirements, and validation processes for electrified systems.
• Proficiency in analysing complex system interactions and a systematic, analytical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team, balancing detailed technical tasks with wider project objectives.

• A competitive pay rate of £25.74 - £31.74 per hour.
