Job summary

Wates Group, on behalf of the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, is seeking an experienced Electrical Shift Engineer with an electrical bias to join the campus facilities team. You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and building services, diagnose faults, and support critical infrastructure across the site, working safely to contractual standards.

The role operates a rotating day and night shift pattern with weekend work, and you will be responsible for

Qualifications

• Qualified electrician with recognised electrical industry qualifications.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation/Maintenance.
• City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Experience in Facilities Management or building services maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting and emergency lighting.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems.
• Diagnose and rectify faults across electrical installations.
• Support operation and maintenance of critical campus infrastructure.
• Complete inspections and testing to statutory requirements.
• Maintain records and permit-to-work documentation.
• Coordinate with colleagues, subcontractors and client team.
• Participate in on-site shift rota to ensure continuous service.
