Job summary

Chess Dynamics Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic Production Engineer with an electrical/test bias to join our team in Horsham. You will support operations, designing and producing test equipment for in-process sub-assembly testing, and provide technical support to resolve production issues.

Key duties include interfacing between engineering and production, applying DFM/DFA/DFT principles, developing test procedures, and driving continuous improvement to quality, capacity and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in a test/engineering environment.
• Excellent knowledge of testing electrical and electromechanical equipment.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and PCB schematics.
• Strong IT skills and clear written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Interface between Engineering and Production from an electrical/test perspective to define in-process testing.
• Provide Electrical and test support to resolve production problems and minimize delays.
• Support Design Engineering with DFx principles during product development.
• Design and develop test equipment and assist in procuring equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
• Develop test procedures and coordinate production engineering processes to meet quality and customer requirements.
• Support Engineering with CR implementations and yield improvements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase capacity, quality and reliability; drive cost reductions.
• Assist Quality with inspection and investigation activities.
• Aid in budget preparation and monitor expenses.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Production Engineer with an electrical/test bias to join our team. In this position Electrical Production Engineer will support operations, designing and producing test equipment for in process sub-assembly testing. Also providing support to Engineering during the design phase of our products and providing technical support to the Operations department to improve processes and resolve technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Interface between Engineering and the Production teams from an electrical/test perspective helping determine in process testing required during production to improve build quality and reduce rework time.
• Provide Electrical and test support to effectively deal with engineering/production problems, ensuring production delays are kept to a minimum.
• Support Design Engineering throughout the product development lifecycle by ensuring Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) principles are applied from the earliest stages of product development.
• Design and development of test equipment, assisting in the procurement of equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
• Develop test procedures and plan and coordinate production engineering processes to ensure high quality products are produced and Customer requirements are met.
• Provide support to Engineering with implementation of CR’s.
• Identify, develop and implement process improvements/best practices to improve production capacity, quality and reliability and supporting Continuous Improvement activities. Implementing cost reduction initiatives to provide year on year cost savings.
• Assisting the quality department with inspection and investigation activities.
• Aid in budget preparation and monitor expenses.
• Perform engineering analysis to reduce test equipment and production assembly equipment downtime and outages.
• Fault-find electromechanical equipment, investigating problems, analyse root causes and derive resolutions.
• Travel when required to assist customers with technical and production problems, resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Assist with production staff training providing knowledge transfer within the workplace.

Skills & Experience Essential

• Solid relevant experience in a test/engineering environment and/or qualification such as a degree or HND
• Excellent knowledge of testing electrical and electromechanical equipment
• Excellent ability at reading complex technical drawings both wiring and PCB Schematics
• Excellent computer skills
• Good communication skills – verbal and written to a wide range of target audiences
