Job summary

Barnsley College is seeking an experienced Electrical Installation Instructor to deliver practical training in the Engineering Department. You will run demonstrations, assess learners, and foster safe, engaging learning environments to build industry-ready skills.

Working with the Course Leader and teaching team, you will prepare resources, monitor progress, and support students toward their qualifications and career goals in the electrical industry.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification required.
  • GCSE Maths and English or willingness to work towards them.
  • Level 4 teaching qualification or willingness to work towards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver demonstrations and practical instruction in electrical installation.
  • Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support health and safety instruction and safe workshop practices.
  • Prepare workshops and learning resources for delivery.

Electrical Installation Instructor

Department: Engineering

Salary: £28,991 to £33,486 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Electrical Installation professional looking to share your skills and inspire the next generation of electricians?

Barnsley College is seeking an enthusiastic Electrical Installation Instructor to support the delivery of practical training within our Engineering Department. Working closely with the Course Leader and wider teaching team, you will prepare and deliver practical instruction, support learners in developing industry-standard skills, and help create a safe, engaging and supportive learning environment.

You will deliver demonstrations, assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and support students in developing the technical knowledge and professional behaviours required for a successful career in the electrical industry. You will also support the preparation of workshops and learning resources, undertake health and safety instruction, and contribute to maintaining high standards across the department.

Working with learners at different stages of their educational journey, you will help build confidence, develop practical competence and support students to achieve their qualifications and career ambitions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone already working in education or an industry professional looking to move into a rewarding teaching and training role.

About You

You will have relevant industry experience within Electrical Installation and a passion for supporting others to learn and succeed. You will be confident delivering practical instruction, mentoring learners and maintaining high standards of health and safety within workshop environments.

With a positive and enthusiastic approach, you will be able to communicate effectively with learners, colleagues and employers, helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. You will be organised, adaptable and committed to creating a positive learning experience for all students.

Ideally, you will have experience of mentoring colleagues, apprentices or learners within the workplace and be comfortable assessing progress and providing constructive feedback. Above all, you will be committed to helping learners reach their full potential and preparing them for success within the electrical industry.
