The Role
As the Electrical Engineering Design Manager at Merit, you will lead the Electrical Engineering Design Team in producing technically accurate electrical systems design in accordance with BS7671 & the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM), whilst producing and ensuring consistency of electrical design estimates and budgets.
Purpose and Objectives:
- Review and control the technical content of the model and drawings produced, and check and approve drawings.
- Specify electrical components and systems in line with Merit’s platform design.
- Liaise with relevant personnel regarding modelling and CAD requirements to produce fully coordinated models supporting the project from design to final completion.
- Facilitate all key documents for the model and layout through engineering reviews (CDM, Design Reviews, Design Workshops, constructability, and maintainability, etc.).
- Advise management to stop or change working techniques where legislation or procedures are being breached.
- Prepare and issue regular progress reports to Engineering Design and Project Management.
- Check design consultant work and design calculations within individual capabilities or identify and specify SQEP resources required.
- Produce engineering working practices and quality plans as required.
- Manage and specify scope to subcontractors on different disciplines, ensuring designs align with the model and drawings are kept up to date.
- Carry out value engineering reviews through collaborative workshops and finalize designs for procurement and manufacturing.
- Ensure designs utilize best practice technologies and offsite manufacturing techniques.
- Align drawings with the model and client requirements.
- Lead electrical workshops with the client.
- Lead a team of engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain continuous collaboration with mechanical, architectural, coordination, factory, and site teams.
Personal Qualities and Experience:
- An appropriate Electrical Engineering qualification and relevant experience in electrical design roles.
- Experience in site project management and team management.
- Proven track record of improving cost efficiency through detailed cost analysis versus design outcomes.
- Experience in hospital, cleanroom, and laboratory design and construction.
- Understanding of engineering technologies.
- Extensive building services experience.
- Revit experience.
- Experience with MMC and offsite manufacturing.
- Experience managing multiple projects throughout their lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with modular wiring solutions.
- Knowledge of BS7671, BS5839, BS6701, HTM06 & HTM08 standards.
