Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an Electrical Engineer based in Cardiff to deliver projects while working in a collaborative environment. The role requires technical expertise in electrical design, team supervision, and effective client engagement. Ideal candidates will hold an applicable engineering degree and have experience with Revit MEP. This position offers a dynamic work culture within a large team of engineers, with easy access to local transport routes.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering various projects in terms of scale and sector.
  • Ability to engage with clients, contractors, and design team in technical discussions.
  • Ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects for discipline in line with client expectations.
  • Work in joint leadership within a MEP discipline team.
  • Review design programmes and ensure resource for project delivery.
  • Supervise completion of detailed designs and direct others.
  • Lead project-specific feasibility studies.

A Little More About Your Role
  • Electrical Engineer grade with a proven track record in delivering projects for your discipline in line with client expectations.
  • Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team providing design and technical advice in a WSP project manager capacity on a wide range of projects.
  • Review design programmes and ensure sufficient resource for project completion inline with technical and commercial performance and delivery.
  • Work using initiative with minimal supervision on technical aspects of discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Work under the direction of the client and interpret project needs to meet delivery requirements.
  • Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise in the region.
  • Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study.
  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specifications for the discipline, subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Development and line management of junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Held or working towards CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council Chartership.
  • RevitMEP training applicable to discipline.
  • Proven track record of delivering a variety of projects in terms of scale and sector.
  • Ability to engage with clients, contractors and design team members in technical discussions, coordination and debates.
  • Ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively to construction professionals and client teams.
  • Detailed understanding of regulations applicable to the discipline and ability to demonstrate this through calculation.
  • Working understanding of latest electrical design software packages to allow allocation/direction of work on projects.
  • Good understanding of using Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow allocation/direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
Team Information - Bristol Office
  • Team of 25 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers, part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 engineers.
  • Based in the Bristol office, offering easy commuting via Bristol Temple Meads Train Station (10 mins walk) and proximity to City Centre.
Team Information - Cardiff Office
  • Team of 20 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers, part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 engineers.
  • Based in the Cardiff office, offering easy commuting via Cardiff Central and Queen Street Train Station (10 mins walk) and proximity to City Centre.
