Job summary

WSP is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join Building Services in Bristol and Cardiff. The role involves leading MEP design, providing technical guidance, and delivering projects to client specifications.

You will work within a strong engineering team that includes 25+ mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers in Bristol and Cardiff, with opportunities for career progression and exposure to a broad project portfolio.

Qualifications

  • BEng/Bsc/MEng in applicable engineering discipline.
  • CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council Chartership or working towards it.
  • RevitMEP training applied to the discipline.
  • Proven track record delivering projects of varying scale.
  • Ability to engage with clients, contractors and design teams in technical discussions.
  • Ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically to professionals.
  • Understanding of regulations applicable to the discipline.
  • Knowledge of latest electrical design software packages.
  • Understanding of Revit MEP or other 3D design software.
  • UK security vetting level (SC) eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Meet the requirements of an Electrical Engineer grade and deliver projects.
  • Lead a joint MEP discipline team providing design and technical advice.
  • Review design programmes and ensure resources meet delivery targets.
  • Work with initiative under client direction to meet project needs.
  • Promote WSP capabilities in the region.
  • Supervise production of detailed designs and ensure review before issue.
  • Direct feasibility studies and disciplinary feasibility considerations.
  • Develop and manage junior staff progression.

A little more about your role…
  • Meeting the requirements of a Electrical Engineer grade and have a proven track record in delivering projects for your discipline and in line with client expectations.
  • Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team providing design and technical advice in a WSP project manager capacity on a wide range of projects.
  • Reviewing design programmes and ensuring that sufficient resource is available to complete the works inline with technical and commercial performance and delivery.
  • Able to work using initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of their discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Able to work under the clear direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needs.
  • Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise in the region
  • Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Development and line management of junior staff.

  • Building Services in Bristol consists of 25 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers as well as sustainability consultants who form part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 MEP engineers.

  • Building Services in Cardiff consists of 20 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers as well as sustainability consultants who form part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 MEP engineers.
  • We make extraordinary efforts to attract, develop, engage and retain the best professionals in our fields of expertise because this is what makes us great.
  • We put the highest ethical standards at the centre of all we do, and professionalism is inherent in our offering.
  • You will be based in our Cardiff office, offering easy commuting options via Cardiff Central and Queen Street Train Station (10mins walk) and access into Cardiff City Centre within a 5 minute walk.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • BEng/Bsc/MEng in applicable engineering discipline
  • CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council Chartership or working towards it.
  • RevitMEP training applied to the discipline
  • A proven track record of delivering a variety of projects both in terms of scale and sector.
  • Have the ability to engage with clients, contractors and design team members in technical discussions, co-ordination and debates.
  • Have an ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively to both construction professionals and client teams.
  • Have a detailed understanding of the regulations applicable to the discipline and how to demonstrate this through calculation.
  • Have working understanding of latest electrical design software packages to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have a good understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)
