Job summary

WSP, a global engineering firm, seeks an Electrical Engineer in building services to work on Cambridge projects. The role covers detailed design, performance specifications, and multidisciplinary collaboration across teams in a dynamic project environment.

You will interpret project needs, work with discipline leads and clients, and develop feasible design solutions while ensuring resources are available to complete the works. The position is based in Cambridge with hybrid working options.

Qualifications

  • Experience as an electrical engineer in building services.
  • Understanding UK/European regulations for project execution.
  • UK project experience in Building Services MEP.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify electrical systems for multiple projects.
  • Provide design and technical advice with multidisciplinary input.
  • Coordinate with discipline leads and clients to meet delivery needs.
  • Assess feasibility and allocate resources for design tasks.
  • Review detailed design programme and ensure adequate resources.

A little more about your role…
  • Meeting the requirements of an 'Engineer' grade and have a proven track record of working on projects for your discipline as part of the overall project team.
  • Able to work using their own initiative with supervision on all technical aspects of their discipline.
  • Able to work under the clear direction of the discipline lead or the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needs.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline.
  • Proficient in completing detailed design and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue and providing design and technical advice with a multidisciplinary approach on a wide range of projects.
  • Review and input where required to the detailed design programme and ensure that sufficient resource is available to complete the works

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
Key Technical Requirements:
  • Experience as an electrical engineer in building services
  • Having an understanding of the UK and European regulations applicable to the discipline and how to demonstrate this in project execution.
  • Have UK project experience within Building Services MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing)
  • Have working understanding of latest electrical design software packages to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have an ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively.
  • Have working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.

  • Low voltage distribution systems

  • Cable calculations (via software and by hand)
  • Lighting calculations (via software and by hand)
  • Small power

Qualifications:
  • BEng/Bsc/MEng in applicable engineering discipline
  • CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council accredited honours degree or specific experience that will lead to Chartership.
  • Working towards I Eng or C Eng status
  • RevitMEP training applied to the discipline
