Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a qualified engineer in the MEP discipline to lead various projects at their Bristol office. The successful candidate will have expertise in electrical design, project management, and team leadership. Responsibilities include supervising design works and ensuring compliance with UK regulations. The position offers a hybrid working model, training opportunities, and a commitment to inclusivity and well-being support for all employees.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in leading projects and successful delivery.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and interpret client needs.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects and provide design advice within a MEP team.
  • Supervise design completion and ensure resource availability.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Have a proven track record in leading projects for your discipline and for an overall project team, demonstrating where your personal input led to the commission being won or successfully delivered.
  • Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team, providing design and technical advice with a multidisciplinary approach on a wide range of projects.
  • Able to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of your discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Able to work under the clear direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needs.
  • Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specifications for the discipline, subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Review design programmes and ensure that sufficient resource is available to complete the works.
Location and Team – Bristol Office
  • You will be joining a team with a strong forward workload/order book stretching into the middle of next year.
  • You will grow a team with lots of medium‑term opportunities for career progression.
  • You will work closely with likeminded individuals on exciting and challenging projects.
  • Building Services in Bristol consists of 25 mechanical, electrical and public health engineers as well as sustainability consultants, forming part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 MEP engineers.
  • You will be based in our Bristol office, offering easy commuting options via Bristol Temple Meads Train Station (10 min walk) and access into Bristol City Centre within a 10‑minute walk.
Location and Team – Cardiff Office
  • You will be joining a team with a strong forward workload/order book stretching into the middle of next year.

  • You will work closely with likeminded individuals on exciting and challenging projects.
  • Building Services in Cardiff consists of 20 mechanical, electrical and public health engineers as well as sustainability consultants, forming part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 MEP engineers.
  • You will be based in our Cardiff office, offering easy commuting options via Cardiff Central and Queen Street Train Station (10 min walk) and access into Cardiff City Centre within a 5‑minute walk.
Key Technical Requirements
  • Understanding of UK and European regulations applicable to the discipline and ability to demonstrate this in project execution.
  • Working knowledge of the latest electrical design software packages to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Understanding of Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).

  • Working towards I.Eng or C.Eng status
  • RevitMEP training applicable to the discipline
