Job summary

RG Setsquare in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Electrical Craftsperson to join a busy engineering and maintenance team. You will carry out electrical installations, repairs and preventative maintenance across the site.

The role involves testing, emergency lighting work and on-call duties, with overtime opportunities and a focus on safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

  • Completed Electrical Apprenticeship with relevant qualifications.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations required.
  • AM2 qualification required.
  • Strong hands-on experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Good driving licence and ability to work on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general electrical installations, repairs and maintenance on site.
  • Install, repair and replace sockets, switches, lamps and other components.
  • Perform retrofitting and replacement of electrical components and equipment.
  • Carry out rewiring and modification works to existing assets and systems.
  • Install, test and maintain emergency lighting systems.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) per schedules.
  • Inspect fuse boards and distribution equipment.
  • Carry out PAT testing and remedial work.
  • Conduct RCD testing and electrical safety checks.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain maintenance records and compliance documentation accurately.
  • Work safely and follow Health & Safety procedures and electrical regulations.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests and faults as required.
  • participate in on-call rota (approx. 1 in 9/10) and overtime as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other engineering disciplines.

Electrical Craftsperson

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Competitive Salary

Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

On-Call Rota: Approximately 1 in 9/10

Overtime: Available

We're looking for an experienced Electrical Craftsperson to join a busy engineering and maintenance team in Birmingham.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Carrying out general electrical installations, repairs and maintenance across the site.
  • Installing, repairing and replacing sockets, switches, lamps and other electrical components.
  • Carrying out retrofitting and replacement of electrical components and equipment.
  • Undertaking electrical rewiring and modification works to existing assets and systems.
  • Installing, testing and maintaining emergency lighting systems.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with schedules and site requirements.
  • Inspecting and carrying out checks on fuse boards and distribution equipment.
  • Undertaking PAT testing and associated remedial works.
  • Carrying out RCD testing and electrical safety checks.
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and completing repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Completing maintenance records, test results, job sheets and associated compliance documentation accurately.
  • Working safely at all times and following relevant Health & Safety procedures, electrical regulations and safe systems of work.
  • Responding to reactive maintenance requests and electrical faults as required.
  • Participating in an on-call rota of approximately 1 in 9/10 to support out-of-hours maintenance requirements.
  • Supporting additional overtime when required and available.
  • Working closely with colleagues, supervisors and other engineering disciplines to ensure reliable site operations.
What We're Looking For:
  • A completed Electrical Apprenticeship with relevant electrical qualifications.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • AM2 qualification.
  • Strong hands-on experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Practical experience working with sockets, switches, lighting, lamps and electrical components.
  • Experience with emergency lighting installation, testing and maintenance.
  • Experience carrying out PAT testing and RCD testing.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of fuse boards, distribution equipment and electrical systems.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of electrical regulations, compliance and safe working practices.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to complete maintenance and testing documentation accurately.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and respond effectively to reactive maintenance requirements.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider engineering team.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
  • Flexibility and willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
Desirable:
  • Previous experience within Facilities Management, Building Services, Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial environments
  • Experience carrying out electrical PPMs
  • Experience with emergency lighting systems
  • Experience with electrical testing and inspection
  • Experience working within a multi-skilled engineering or facilities team
  • Additional electrical or maintenance qualifications
Important Requirements:
  • This position requires a DBS Standard check, therefore the successful candidate must be able to satisfy the requirements of the check.
  • Completed Electrical Apprenticeship is required.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is required.
  • AM2 is required.
  • A valid full driving licence is required.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rota of approximately 1 in 9/10 is required.
