Job summary

Tata Chemicals Europe, based at the British Salt site in Middlewich, Cheshire, is seeking an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering Manager to lead the CE team and ensure safe, compliant engineering practices.

This permanent on-site role focuses on governance, continuous improvement, and effective resource management to support production and site safety.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering degree or equivalent.
• Significant experience in electrical engineering and maintenance management.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of statutory electrical standards.

Responsibilities

• Fulfil the role of Control & Electrical Duty Holder for the Middlewich sites and ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and procedures.
• Maintain governance for electrical and control systems and manage risk.
• Lead CE standards, engineering practices, and continuous improvement.
• Coach CE team leads and manage frontline activities.
• Lead daily management of CE work through planning and meetings.
• Collaborate with Planning Engineer to scope and resource maintenance activities.
• Develop CE team culture aligned with ALCOA++ principles and MHRA accreditation.
• Manage internal and external resources to deliver maintenance and project work.

We are proud of our British Salt business in Middlewich, Cheshire, producing approx. 360,000 tonnes of salt each year which is used for pharma, food, water-softening and industrial uses such as de-icing.

We've also launched Medi-Salt, the UK's first dedicated pharmaceutical-grade salt manufacturing facility. Producing high-purity salt for use as both an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and pharmaceutical excipient, Medi-Salt is setting new standards in quality, compliance and innovation.

CE engineering opportunity

We are recruiting for a EC and I Manager to lead the CE team at our Middlewich site and support the CE agenda across the wider business. You will play a crucial role in leading governance and expertise across a full range of Electrical and Control Systems and equipment ensuring continuous improvement, adherence to and development of all CE policies, standards and procedures.

You will take the lead in driving operational excellence across the CE Team. You'll work closely with planners and stakeholders to ensure CE maintenance activities are planned, resourced, and executed safely and efficiently.

Through strong coaching and hands-on leadership, you'll support the CE team by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities

• Fulfil the role of Control & Electrical Duty Holder for the Middlewich sites, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, company standards, and engineering procedures.
• Maintain governance arrangements for electrical and control systems, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed.
• Liaise with other senior Control & Electrical Duty Holders across the business to promote consistency, share best practice, and develop and maintain CE standards, procedures, and engineering practices to support operational excellence.
• Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all Control & Electrical activities are carried out safely and in accordance with site procedures, permit-to-work systems, and isolation standards and provide technical expertise and leadership across all electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control systems.
• Coach and support the CE Supervisor and Senior Technicians, ensuring effective leadership, knowledge sharing, and visible engagement with frontline activities.
• Lead the daily management of Control & Electrical work activities through participation in Tier 3, planning, and scheduling meetings.
• Collaborate with the Planning Engineer to ensure all planned maintenance activities are appropriately scoped, prioritised, resourced, and prepared ahead of execution.
• Evolve the the CE Team to work efficiently and effectively in a manner that focusses on Quality of work, Accurate Data Recording and in line with rigorous SOP's and the ALCOA++ Principles in accordance with MHRA accreditation, extending this culture to the rest of the plant.
• Manage internal and external resources (Contractors) to ensure the effective delivery of maintenance and project activities, ensuring they work in accordance with site safety, quality, and technical standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have an Electrical engineering Degree (or equivalent) with Significant experience in Electrical engineering and maintenance management.

• Knowledge and understanding of Statutory Electrical Standards
• In depth electrical expertise and experience.
• Proven experience of managing and developing CE teams/projects
