Job summary

Pertemps Thames Water in Hatfield is seeking an Electrical and Mechanical Technician to join the Mill Green team. You will perform frontline maintenance on sewage pumping stations, focusing on electrical maintenance, and work with multi-disciplinary teams to keep plant running.

The role requires time-served apprenticeship and significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or NVQ/C&G level 3. You will respond to faults, install, modify and commission equipment, and contribute to safety

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a career-minded person to join our Mill Green (Hatfield) team as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician. Focused mainly on electrical maintenance, you will be required to perform a range of assigned front-line maintenance/operational activities on our sewage pumping stations in the Hertfordshire area.

Working in multi-disciplinary teams that are responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water’s environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites and networks.

What you’ll be doing as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults, as well as performing repairs during incidents.
  • Installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment and diagnosing and repairing faults in systems and plants.
  • Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  • Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base Location: Mill Green (Hatfield), AL9 5PE

Working hours: 38 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 3:36pm. Additionally, you will be included in a 1-week in every 6-weeks out-of-hours emergency standby rota, for which you receive additional payments.

You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.

  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative, to design and meet standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • IT literate.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Offering base salary up to £45,000 per annum, plus standby & overtime opportunity. increasing earning by a potential £8,000 - £10,000.
