Job summary

Vale seeks a CIE Technician to support safe and efficient operation of Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) plant at Clydach Nickel Refinery. You will perform planned, preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise availability and minimise downtime, working with Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams.

The role requires fault-finding skills, commitment to safety, and a proactive problem-solving approach in a 24-hour refinery environment with rotating day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Completed Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 to 4 years' experience within an industrial maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine, preventative and emergency Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance activities across the refinery.
• Respond to plant breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoring equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety by completing SLAM assessments and ensuring compliant with risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.
• Liaise with the CIE Coordinator regarding technical issues, job progress, delays and maintenance priorities.
• Accurately record maintenance activities, job details and follow-up actions within SAP.
• Identify and report equipment defects, reliability concerns and opportunities for improvement.
• Support refinery production by ensuring minimum downtime and maximum equipment availability.
• Participate in daily FMDS meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with the development and training of apprentices and colleagues when required.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and support 5S principles within the workplace.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to achieve operational and maintenance objectives.
• Participate in overtime and call-out activities where reasonably practicable.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a CIE Technician to support the safe and efficient operation of Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) plant and equipment across Clydach Nickel Refinery. Reporting to the CIE Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring maximum plant availability and minimising production downtime. This role is ideally suited to an experienced Electrical or Instrumentation Technician with a strong commitment to safety, excellent fault-finding skills, and a proactive approach to problem solving. You will work closely with Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams, supporting refinery operations in a challenging and rewarding industrial environment. This position operates on a rotating day and night shift pattern, supporting the refinery's 24-hour operation.

• Experience maintaining industrial plant and equipment.

• Willingness to work a rotating days and nights shift pattern.

Preferred Skills

• Holds an HNC in an Engineering discipline.
• Has experience working within manufacturing, chemical, refinery, metals or other heavy industrial environments.
• Demonstrates excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Has experience using SAP or other computerised maintenance management systems.
• Shows a strong commitment to safety, environmental performance and operational excellence.
