Job summary

Barrett Steel Limited in Northern England is seeking an experienced Electric Overhead Crane Engineer to support our Scunthorpe and group operations. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs for Electric Overhead Travelling Cranes (EOTCs) to maximise reliability, safety, and efficiency across the network.

The candidate will diagnose electrical/mechanical faults, conduct root cause analysis, and provide technical guidance while complying with health and safety

Qualifications

• Must be safety-focused and follow Barrett Steel policies.
• Qualification in electrical and/or mechanical discipline.
• Strong knowledge of overhead crane systems.
• Experience with Konecranes, ABUS and Demag cranes.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults.
• Full UK driving licence and IPAF 3a/3b certification.
• Willingness to travel to Barrett Steel sites.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on overhead travelling cranes and equipment.
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and undertake repairs.
• Conduct root cause analysis following failures to prevent recurrence.
• Maximise crane availability and reliability through proactive maintenance.
• Achieve high first-time fix rates to minimise downtime and costs.
• Provide technical guidance on crane operation, maintenance and lifting activities.
• Complete RAMS and risk assessments; report crane performance monthly.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance.
