Job summary

Barrett Steel is seeking an experienced Electric Overhead Crane Engineer based in Northern England to join the Asset Care Crane Division. The role focuses on preventative maintenance, inspection, fault diagnosis and repair of Electric Overhead Travelling Cranes across the Scunthorpe site and group operations, with occasional travel to other Barrett Steel sites.

The ideal candidate will have qualifications in electrical/mechanical discipline, strong electrical knowledge, and experience with

Qualifications

• Safety-focused, adhere to current standards and Barrett policies.
• Qualification in electrical and/or mechanical discipline.
• Strong electrical knowledge with overhead cranes.
• Experience with Konecranes, ABUS and Demag crane systems.
• Full UK driving licence. IPAF 3a/3b preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative maintenance on overhead cranes and equipment.
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and perform repairs.
• Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
• Maximise crane availability through proactive maintenance.
• Achieve high first-time fix rates to reduce downtime and costs.
• Provide technical guidance on crane operation and maintenance.
• Complete RAMS and risk assessments; report crane performance monthly.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimise equipment performance.
