About your new role

Our Public Sector team is one of the largest in the UK, with extensive experience working with local authorities, local authority consortia, police forces, fire authorities, and NHS Trusts. Our approach is focused on solving our client's legal problems quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively. We are brand leaders in defendant litigation services for local and public authorities, with in-depth expertise in all types of claims including motor, public liability, and employers' liability. We are currently recruiting for a NQ - 2 PQE to join our Casualty team in Birmingham.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Manage a caseload of non-litigated and litigated claims on behalf of local authorities, including highways claims, occupiers' liability, and some EL claims.
2. Assist the Partner in handling more complex claims, including social care and Human Rights claims.
3. Support the TM and other team members with their cases, client development, client training, and networking.
4. Liaise with parties such as solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel, and clients.
5. Control Case Manager diary and action lists.
6. Draft documents such as letters and reports.
7. Satisfy client care standards in accordance with guidelines and directions.
8. Complete Client MI procedures.
9. Achieve financial and chargeable targets.
10. Comply with relevant rules, policies, and procedures.
11. Stay updated with legal developments.
12. Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values.

About You

• Experience in defending litigated claims is essential; candidates with Claimant litigation experience will also be considered.
• Prior experience in personal injury claims is highly desirable.
• Minimum of a 2:1 degree is required.
• Excellent knowledge of the CPR, fixed costs regime, and litigation processes.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and IT skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and targets.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
