About your new role

Our national Large Loss team provides expert legal services for high-value and complex insurance claims. Weightmans’ Large Loss team handles claims reserved at over £150,000, including severe injuries such as brain, spinal, and amputation injuries, chronic pain/FND, and fatality claims, representing over £800 million in client reserves. The work involves Motor, employers’ liability, public liability, and product liability claims. We maintain vigilance against fraud at all claim values.

We are currently recruiting for a Large Loss Solicitor (2+ YRS PQE) to join our team.

The successful candidate will primarily assist partners with catastrophic injury claims, delegate tasks to junior lawyers, and manage a caseload with a degree of autonomy. There are opportunities to handle cases of up to £500,000 independently.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Assist partners and manage a caseload of catastrophic and high-value PI cases.
• Conduct initial investigations and prepare reports for clients and internal strategies.
• Liaise with solicitors, insurers, police, HSE, and witnesses to gather evidence.
• Instruct experts as needed.
• Manage case diaries and action lists.
• Attend court hearings, conferences, and JSMs as directed.
• Draft correspondence, reports, reserve sheets, and action plans.
• Supervise and develop junior team members.
• Complete MI procedures and ensure compliance with Data Protection, CPR, and rehabilitation protocols.
• Stay updated on legal developments in defendant personal injury work.
• Achieve financial and KPIs targets, meet deadlines, and adhere to policies.
• Uphold Weightmans’ values and perform additional duties as required.

About You

• Previous experience and interest in the relevant work area.
• Approximately 2+ PQE as a solicitor.
• Experience managing defendant personal injury litigation, preferably Motor work; EL/PL experience is also relevant. Prior large loss experience is not mandatory.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and work independently or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of CPR procedures and technical legal ability.
