Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced design engineer for high voltage and extra high voltage power cable systems. You will work under the Senior Projects Design Engineer to deliver complete system design across BB Power T&D core work, aligning with PN/EP/201 and Grid procedures.

Responsibilities include creating designs, performing loading and rating calculations, and liaising with clients, fabricators and estimators.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with EHV (11kV–400kV) power systems desirable.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and circuit schematics.

Responsibilities

• Design of high voltage cable systems including electrical, mechanical and installation engineering.
• Prepare designs and drawings for cable supporting steelwork and foundations.
• Carry out loading calculations and cable installation design, including pulling tension calculations.
• Liaise with fabricators, suppliers and client representatives; attend site visits and meetings.
• Prepare electrical system designs, cable sizes and rating calculations; prepare material schedules.
