Job summary

Learning Curve Group is seeking an EHCP Learning Support Assistant in Derby to support students with additional learning needs within Hair & Beauty Academy. This fixed-term role requires experience with SEND and EHCP plans, and collaboration with tutors to adapt materials and support well-being.

The position runs full time on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027, with half-term breaks as noted. It offers a structured environment within a national education provider.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience working with post-16 learners.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with post-16 learners with EHCPs.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • NVQ3 or equivalent recognised by NOS for Supporting Teaching and Learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structured support using interventions per EHCP Plan.
  • Aid access to learning with modified materials.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to SENCo.
  • Support Tutors with adjustments for learners with SEND.
  • Update Learning Support Plans and logs.

Role Information

Our academies' provision at Learning Curve Group supports thousands of learners to gain hands‑on experience in their chosen profession, whether that be Hair & Beauty, Military, or Construction.

As a Learning Support Advisor at our Hair & Beauty Academy in Derby, you will assist our learners with additional learning needs. This unique role is full time roleon a fixed-term basis. A strong background in supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) is essential.

Please note that this is on a fixed-term basis until 30th June 2027 with closures as follows:

  • Provide structured support using a range of effective interventions (as per their EHCP Plan) within a class and/or outdoor setting
  • To aid access to the full range of learning experiences and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompt cards etc.
  • Provide positive reinforcements, praise and emotional support to learners
  • Advise and support Tutors with making necessary adjustments for Learners with learning support needs
  • Ensure Learning Support Plans and contact logs are updated accurately and timely
  • Work as part of the team to ensure that the well being and personal development of the Learner enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
  • Agree learning support aims and interventions with the learner and set these out in the Learning Support Plan
  • Provide regular feedback to the SENCo and, where necessary, relevant outside agencies about any pupil's difficulties and progress.
  • Contribute to the Learners' annual review by writing a brief report and attending the meeting
  • Foster links with External Agencies and Carers
  • Facilitate inclusion in small group activities with learners and support interaction between them.
  • Attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments
  • Carry out tasks and responsibilities under the direction of the SENCo
  • Conduct your role in line with the company values and expected behaviours
  • Promote equal opportunities and recognition of diversity throughout the company
  • Comply with the Safeguarding, Prevent and Health and Safety Policies and be vigilant to potential concerns and risks at all times
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Provide learners, customers and colleagues with support, advice guidance as part of your everyday role

Essentia Criteria
  • Must have a Minimum of 2 years experience working with Post 16 Learners
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Post 16 learners with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP)
  • GCSE, 'O' Level or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English.
  • NVQ3 or equivalent as recognised by the National Occupational Standards for Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • knowledge and understanding of the different social, cultural and physical needs of Learners
  • Have training in aspects of SEN, i.e. ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, SEMH etc
  • Calm and patient attitude
