Job summary

SUEZ is seeking a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician for the Severnside Energy Recovery Centre in Avonmouth. You will lead mechanical maintenance, drive reliability, and mentor a multi-skilled team while advancing sustainability objectives.

The role offers accountability, career development, and the chance to influence site performance in a 40MWe facility. The position requires a robust background in heavy industry maintenance, leadership, and strong safety knowledge.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship with at least 5 years post-apprenticeship experience.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance.
• BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance.
• HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• IOSH qualification and knowledge of health and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out preventative, predictive and reactive mechanical maintenance across the facility.
• Lead, mentor and develop junior maintenance team members to uphold safety and performance.
• Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental and engineering standards.
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability and plant performance.
• Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support for complex maintenance challenges.

SUEZ is looking for a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team at Severnside Energy Recovery Centre (SERC), Avonmouth. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the sustainability and energy recovery sector, helping transform waste into energy while reducing environmental impact.

Salary: £42,142 - £52,680

Benefits: Circa £3000 on call allowance, 10% bonus and overtime, 5% employer pension, 25 days Holiday plus 8 bank holidays, plus Holiday buyback scheme, & Sick pay benefit.

Location: Severnside Energy Recovery Centre, Avonmouth

Hours: 37.5 hours a week, 07: 45 – 15:45, Mon-Fri

What will I be doing?

As a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you'll play a critical role in ensuring SERC operates safely, reliably and efficiently. Working within what is effectively a 40MWe power station, you'll lead mechanical maintenance activities, support operational excellence and help maximise plant availability while contributing to SUEZ's sustainability objectives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional looking to take ownership, influence site performance and mentor others. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, driving continuous improvement and helping deliver essential environmental services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and carrying out preventative, predictive and reactive mechanical maintenance across the facility.
• Leading, mentoring and developing junior members of the maintenance team to achieve high standards of performance and safety.
• Ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental and engineering standards.
• Identifying and implementing improvements that enhance equipment reliability, plant efficiency and operational performance.
• Providing technical expertise and practical problem-solving support for complex maintenance challenges.

What are the requirements?

The successful Senior Mechanical Technician will be a skilled and confident Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician with significant experience in a heavy industrial environment such as Energy from Waste (EfW), power generation, utilities, manufacturing, chemical processing or other process industries.

Essential requirements:

• Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship programme as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician, with a minimum of 5 years' post-apprenticeship experience.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance.
• BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance.
• HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• IOSH qualification and a strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation.

We're particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, confidently communicate technical information and drive improvements in plant availability, reliability and maintenance best practice.
