We are looking for an inspiring and compassionate person, who can work creatively alongside people with mental health needs on their journey towards greater wellbeing & independence.

The Team Leader will support the Service Manager to develop the service and be responsible for the line management of the either support worker, Wellbeing Workers or Peer Support Volunteer Coordinators or Volunteer & Workshop Coordinators ensuring that support is delivered effectively and efficiently, meeting the aims and values of the service.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, guidance and support to staff to help them to carry out their roles effectively to deliver a safe, welcoming and quality support service.
  • Manage staff team rotas, ensuring sufficient complement of staff and volunteers are on shift to meet service user need.
  • Support the Service Manager throughout recruitment processes, ensuring that the vacancies are recruited to with competent staff that share the values of the service.
  • Ensure that new starters are inducted fully and that appropriate training, supervisions and appraisals take place within appropriate timescales
  • Support people experiencing mental distress in an empathic, professional manner
  • Ensure that people using the service feel in control of their support
  • Work alongside individuals to develop and review robust assessments, safety management plans and personalised recovery support plans
  • Promote engagement within the community as a key factor in recovery and self-management.
  • Ensure that people stay safe and risk is escalated appropriately to emergency and crisis services
  • Ensure that safeguarding procedures are adhered to
  • Maintain appropriate links with individuals’ mental health workers and other professionals and organisations involved in their care
  • Be an expert navigator of local communities, continually building and sustaining relationships and partnerships with agencies and professionals, promoting the service,
  • Extend the range of community opportunities for these individuals by supporting community resources to improve accessibility and tackling mental health stigma
  • Work within set targets and manage time effectively on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Share knowledge, skills and experience within the team, while observing confidentiality, and participate in team meetings and reflective practice groups
  • Make a positive contribution to and work constructively within the team, including developing your own abilities to enhance team performance
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health and safety and security in the workplace
  • Work in a way that ensures the service is delivered in compliance with relevant legislation, the service values, policies and practices and contractual requirements
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming venue, managing environmental risk
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • Support the Service Manager to deliver financially stable service
  • Support the maintenance of a database of community resources, used by staff and people using the service to identify and access a range of opportunities to promote wellbeing and independence
  • Support the Service Manager in delivery of monthly and quarterly performance and quality reports

Essential:

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience of line management/supervision
  • Ability to lead, mentor and supervise staff to ensure they are achieving their full potential for the benefit of those using the service
  • Ability to encourage team working and skills sharing, role-modelling an open, positive and outward-looking culture
  • Understanding of issues surrounding mental health and issues likely to affect those experiencing or recovering from periods of mental illness
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and sensitively with a range of people
  • Ability to develop, maintain and facilitate positive working relationships with individuals using the service, staff, volunteers and health professionals
  • Excellent IT skills including use of, shared calendars and the internet
  • Willing and able to engage with IT systems, including a client record management database and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently maintain appropriate records and maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload, work on own initiative, meet deadlines and make autonomous decisions where needed
  • Understanding of the importance of leadership of those accessing the service and the benefits of peer support
  • Confident in making decisions within job scope, but defers to line manager as appropriate
  • Willing to learn, through training, supervision and day-to-day experience
  • Commitment to the empowerment of those using the service and a belief in user involvement and promoting people’s right
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and awareness of issues for people from marginalised or minority background
  • Passionate about and committed to the empowerment of people who are experiencing mental distress

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification in the field of housing, social work or similar profession
  • Experience of developing user leadership or involvement opportunities
