Job description

Primary SEN Teacher

Loughborough

Up to £37,440 dependent on experience

Local independent SEN Specialist school is seeking an experienced Primary School teacher to join their team on a permanent basis.

A specialist SEMH school, which caters to a diverse cohort of students aged 7 - 17, this school is a nurturing, caring and dynamic community.

Within this role you will be primarily a teacher of children before a teacher of subjects.

Knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students will all be key to your success.

The school is looking for a Primary teacher with the ability/willingness to teach Maths and/or English to GCSE level.

No matter the accreditation best for each individual child to pursue, high aspirations are maintained for the children regardless of their learning journey and the importance of qualifications to provide the children with life chances and opportunities is never underestimated.

You will be supported by national subject champions who can support the work of non-subject specialists to be experts in how best to facilitate learning for the children they know best.

You will inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. You will plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and push students, whether they are working on the very basics or they have a special talent or passion for the subject.

The children require very special teachers who are able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours. The children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.

You will be part of the decision making that drives the school, provides outcomes for children and advocates for every child. Your input in developing both the academic curriculum and the opportunities in the extra-curricular offer will be welcomed - bringing your own interests and passions to the table.

The children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

The children are at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and, most importantly, the students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.

To be successful in your application you will have:

QTS qualification

Ideally previous experience working with SEN children

Enhanced DBS on the update service, or be willing to apply for one

The starting salary for this position will be based on your prior experience with complex needs. The highest starting salary for the most experienced teachers is £37,440, however, there is potential for this to rise to £45,000 depending on the performance of the chosen candidate.

In return you will be offered:

  • Staff laptop and mobile phone
  • Competitive salary
  • Extensive training and professional qualification opportunities
  • Small class sizes with specialist TA support
  • The chance to be part of an expanding, national organisation that recognises skill, effort and potential and grows its own leadership teams
  • Enhanced occupational sickness scheme
  • Flexible pension
  • Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision
  • Employee benefit service with access to wellbeing services, salary sacrifice schemes, high street vouchers, money off eating-out and takeaways
