Job Details

Legal Counsel: Cards and Payments

The role is based in the PayPoint head office in Welwyn Garden City and reports to the Head of Legal - Card Services Business. It is part of the wider PayPoint Group Legal Team comprising 10 lawyers.

Main Purpose of Role
  • Handle legal and regulatory matters related to PayPoint Group’s Cards Business, including structuring regulated and unregulated activities under the Consumer Credit Act.
  • Support PayPoint’s other FCA-regulated Payments businesses in collaboration with the legal team.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts to support these businesses.
  • Assist other PayPoint Group businesses as needed.
Main Responsibilities
  • Support the main purpose of the role as outlined above.
  • Provide regulatory input and negotiate commercial agreements.
  • Advise on regulatory developments and brief business stakeholders.
  • Research legislation, case law, and regulatory requirements to ensure accurate advice and procedures.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business.
  • Support data protection matters under the review and management of the DPO.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance Teams to promote a unified approach.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, with at least 2 years post-qualification experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience in drafting contracts and providing legal advice on commercial and regulatory issues.
  • Experience working within FCA-regulated businesses, with a strong understanding of regulatory principles.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, data protection, and data security issues.
  • Effective negotiation skills and attention to detail.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience advising on FCA regulatory matters.
  • Experience with consumer credit and payment services is preferred but not essential.
  • In-house legal experience.
