Job summary

Senploy in South Yorkshire seeks a professional BSL interpreter to provide high-quality, confidential interpreting services to Deaf and hearing-impaired students across the college, enabling full access to teaching, learning and college life.

You will interpret lectures, workshops and assessments, support communications during visits and events, adapt approaches to learners' needs, collaborate with lecturers, and promote an inclusive environment that respects Deaf culture.

Qualifications

• Applicants must hold a British Sign Language qualification at Level 3 or Level 6, depending on the role.
• Previous experience in an educational setting, particularly Further Education, is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture and professional interpreting standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, confidential BSL interpreting between Deaf students and hearing individuals in classroom and college settings.
• Interpret lectures, workshops, tutorials, practical sessions, assessments, examinations and group discussions.
• Support communication during educational visits, enrichment activities, careers events and other college-related activities.
• Adapt interpreting approaches to meet communication needs and learning requirements of individual students.
• Work collaboratively with lecturers and support staff to minimise communication barriers and enable full participation.
• Promote an inclusive learning environment that respects Deaf culture and linguistic needs.
