Northumberland County Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Education Welfare Support Officer - SEN. The primary role involves working with children, families, and schools to promote inclusion and improve attendance. Initially, the post will be based at the Northumberland Education Engagement Hub, managing a caseload of children unable to attend school due to health needs.
Education Welfare operates within the Virtual School, ensuring the Local Authority's statutory duties and responsibilities for safeguarding children related to school attendance, elective home education, children missing education, child employment, and licensing are upheld to high standards. The work is carried out in partnership with children, parents, schools, alternative providers, and other professionals to maximize educational opportunities. Additionally, support is provided at the whole-school level to enhance policies and practices for improving attendance.
Applicants should have a good general education level and experience working in an education or social care setting. The successful candidate will be expected to work during term time plus an additional 10 days.
