Job summary

British Council in Wales is seeking an Education Manager to lead education initiatives across Wales, setting strategy, coordinating partners, and delivering high‑quality programmes that align with policy priorities.

The role requires a degree or equivalent, project management experience, and a track record in externally funded programmes, MEL, and stakeholder engagement; Cardiff office attendance is required three days a week.

Qualifications

  • Must have the pre-existing (permanent) legal right to work in the UK at the time of application; visa sponsorship not provided.
  • Office attendance at Cardiff office is required 3 days per week.
  • Degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Project management or equivalent qualification.
  • In-depth understanding of Education sectors of Wales and of the UK, and of bilateral priorities.
  • Experience of delivering externally funded projects or programmes.
  • Direct experience of client-funded contract pursuit.
  • Experience of overseeing monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) within projects and incorporating lessons learned from MEL into programmes and strategy.
  • Experience of building mutually beneficial relationships with diverse stakeholders including multilateral agencies, donors, government officials, Education/Higher Education leaders, academics, researchers, alumni and students.
  • Knowledge and experience of embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in programmes.
  • Ability to analyse relevant equality issues and identify opportunities to address these in the portfolio.
  • Knowledge of international mobility trends of Welsh students seeking tertiary educational opportunities.
  • Knowledge of transnational educational trends in Wales, including academic and research partnerships of local public and private educational institutions
  • Welsh language skills

Responsibilities

  • Strategize and plan education initiatives for Wales.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and manage a diverse portfolio of education projects.
  • Develop business plans, monitor progress and manage risks.
  • Rationalise partnerships and position the portfolio in the market.
  • Gather market insights, conduct research and inform strategy.
  • Oversee commercial and financial management of education projects.
  • Embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across programmes.
