Job Description:

About the Role

The Newspaper Operations team is responsible for leading the operational planning, production, and timely distribution of our printed titles. We deliver an innovative, collaborative approach to the planning and delivery of the printed product, improving processes, using technology, and leveraging our talent to make our print operations smarter.

You'll manage the timely transmission of pages to the print sites, liaising with Editorial and the press sites, and following procedures to complete each day’s transmission accurately and effectively.

We are looking for a competent, diligent, and communicative team member with intermediate-level skills across the department’s functions, capable of providing practical technical expertise to support others.

This is an exciting and challenging role requiring high attention to detail, covering edition control and imaging responsibilities. The role operates throughout the week (Monday to Sunday), responding to business needs.

Flexibility is important, as the role is onsite and includes 5 over 7 days shifts, including bank holidays. Earliest shift starts at 15:00, with occasional shifts past 00:30, so travel considerations are necessary.

Key Responsibilities

A Coordinator helps deliver high standards of work to achieve the best for our publications and is adaptable to various role elements. The Telegraph’s values—Together, Open-Minded, Fearless, and Informed—are central to our team ethos.

You will be required to:

  • Ensure the timely delivery of pages to correct press sites.
  • Notify press sites of relevant press runs.
  • Check final page proofs for completeness and correctness.
  • Take initiative to ensure successful print runs.
  • Manage editioning and zoning in Editorial and Advertising, including regional editions and ad splits.
  • Report on daily transmissions.
  • Work late shifts, including weekdays and weekends.

In a busy environment, you should demonstrate:

  • A clear, orderly approach to transmission.
  • Ability to work methodically under pressure.
  • Accuracy and efficiency in transmission, copy setting, planning, and imaging.
  • Team support and clear communication of issues.
  • Alignment with Telegraph values.

Additional skills include advanced Photoshop retouching, handling picture production cutouts, intermediate print publishing knowledge, color management skills, problem-solving, prioritization, and process improvement.

The industry is fast-paced, and we aim to make work rewarding with benefits like flexible working, medical cover, parental leave, life assurance, and season ticket loans.
