Job summary

KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions LTD is seeking an experienced Embedded ML engineer for an Edinburgh-based role focused on real-time, on-device sensor classification.

You will optimise models for memory and power constraints, deploy to embedded hardware, and collaborate with firmware and hardware teams. Applicants should have 5+ years in data science or ML engineering, strong Python skills, and hands-on experience with TensorFlow Lite, Edge Impulse, and ONNX Runtime.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of applied experience in data science or ML engineering.
• Experience in ML for classification tasks.
• Proficiency in Python and libraries: scikit-learn, TensorFlow, pandas, NumPy.
• Experience with sensor data, time-series or IoT data.
• Familiarity with embedded ML tools: TensorFlow Lite, Edge Impulse, ONNX Runtime.
• Hands-on with hardware constraints and clear communication to non-technical collaborators.

Responsibilities

• Clean, structure, and analyse sensor datasets from real-world deployments.
• Develop ML models for embedded deployment on resource-constrained devices.
• Work with TensorFlow Lite, Edge Impulse, or custom firmware deployment strategies.
• Optimise model architecture, quantization, and inference speed.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers to integrate the models into live devices.
• Test model performance across lab, semi-field, and real-world settings.
• Document training pipelines, feature engineering, model validation and deployment learnings.
• Establish reproducible, scalable workflows for model development, retraining, and versioning.
• Support platform expansion by cross-app adaptation and transfer.
• Develop features such as confidence scoring, anomaly detection, and on-device adaptation.
