Job summary

Rowden in Bristol is seeking a Principal ML Engineer to lead demanding ML projects end-to-end, from R&D to deployment on edge hardware, with focus on LLMs, distributed training, and safe, auditable AI.

This hands-on role requires deep ML/DL expertise, Python, and experience with PyTorch, Kubernetes, and Docker. You will mentor engineers, engage with customers, and support bids, with hybrid work and on-site three days a week.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to deliver production ML systems with tangible impact.
• Deep ML/DL expertise with strong mathematical grounding.
• Hands-on experience with large-model training and distributed setups.
• Experience with LLMs, agent-based systems, and evaluation.
• Proficient Python development with performance awareness.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of demanding ML projects and set the approach.
• Remain hands-on: design, build, train and debug end-to-end.
• Lead large-model training, including pre-training and fine-tuning.
• Work with LLMs and agent-based systems, considering latency and cost.
• Ensure end-to-end data pipelines and edge deployment readiness.
• Represent Rowden externally in trials, customer engagements and bids.
