Job Role: Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer

Work pattern: Hybrid, at least 2-3 days/week working in our Warwick office

Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer to work on hardware and embedded software for their range of measurement products.

You will be part of a strong research and development team including electronics hardware, embedded software, cloud & backend software, and mobile app development. Your work will be crucial to the success of current and future products.

You will have the opportunity to lead the hardware/firmware team and manage work packages. While initially a technical role, it may develop into a line management position for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architect and design robust products from concepts and specifications, aligning with requirements and bringing innovative solutions to complex problems.
2. Lead and mentor a small team, providing hands-on development and support.
3. Oversee PCB design and layout, ensuring best practices and high-quality results.
4. Define and specify test plans for hardware verification and production testing.
5. Improve test and diagnostic processes.
6. Support environmental and EMC testing during product qualification.
7. Perform circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability assessments.
8. Collaborate with other teams to capture design requirements.
9. Deliver digital electronics designs from architecture to production, preferably for battery-powered, MCU-based applications.
10. Be technically fluent in hardware, firmware, and manufacturing engineering.
11. Oversee PCB design and layout.
12. Understand embedded C programming for microcontrollers.
13. Familiar with interface buses such as SPI, I2C, UART, and USB.
14. Develop products considering DFx principles (safety, testability, manufacturability).
15. Apply verification techniques supporting the product lifecycle.
16. Experience managing a small team or work packages is desirable.
17. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
18. Experience with environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
19. Experience with battery-powered Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices.
20. Analog electronics design experience is advantageous.
21. Experience in smaller companies or startups with broader responsibilities.
22. Fluent in firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering.
23. Knowledge of certification processes (CE and FCC).
