Job description

About the role:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at our Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works, WD3 9SQ.

As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, get involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
  1. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  2. Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
  3. Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting technical trainees if required.
  4. Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, measurement devices, PLCs, VSDs, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  5. Participating in a stand-by rota following relevant training.
Base Location:

Maple Lodge STW, Rickmansworth WD3 9SQ.

Working Pattern:

38 Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Plus standby & overtime opportunities increasing earnings by potential £8,000 - £10,000.

Additional Benefits:

What you should bring to the role
  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Willingness to develop dual-skilled capabilities if only mechanical or electrical experience is present.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, with training provided.
  • Valid driving license; tools and vehicle provided.
