Job description

About the role:

We're currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team in the Newbury area.

As the successful candidate, you will work in a multi-discipline team, responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdowns.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to Thames Water's environmental efforts and help reduce pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to prevent process interruptions.
  • Diagnose complex faults and carry out repairs during incidents.
  • Provide technical advice, training, or support for technical trainees as needed.

Your work may involve equipment such as motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems (VSD, PLCs, V controls), flow, level, pressure measurement, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.

Base Location

Newbury - RG19 3TL.

Working Pattern

38 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus standby rota with additional pay. All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • Time-served apprentice with significant electrical systems experience in a multi-skilled capacity. Relevant qualifications include electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering, and mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Upskilling with mechanical qualifications for inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, with training provided.
  • A valid driving license; all necessary equipment is provided.
