Job summary

Yorkshire Water is hiring an Ecologist to join the Land & Property Finance team in West Yorkshire. You will advise on ecology and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) across capital projects, embed best practice with project managers, and help implement Yorkshire Water’s BNG approach, including internal bank management.

You will review reports, coordinate surveys, and ensure compliance with planning and regulatory requirements while supporting delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Experience in ecology and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) guidance.
• Ability to support project managers and delivery teams.
• Knowledge of regulatory and planning requirements related to ecology.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers by commissioning and reviewing ecological and BNG assessments.
• Review ecological reports to ensure recommendations are fit for purpose and timely.
• Embed ecology and BNG considerations from planning through to construction.
• Provide expert ecology and BNG advice across project lifecycles.
• Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain processes, guidance and bank management.
• Review HMMPs, Biodiversity Gain Plans and audit reports for compliance.
• Undertake site surveys and BNG-related activities as part of capital projects.
• Advise on new environmental legislation and provide training on ecology topics.
